Backcountry/Touring

Backcountry. The Tomamu district lies just to the south of Daisestsusan National Park and is an area of wilderness peaks reaching to 1300m. The town of Tomamu itself is surrounded by wild mountain ranges. The base elevation in the area is 580m, which makes it a much higher base than most resorts in Hokkaido. This altitude, combined with the geography and location, ensure high quality dry powder snow is the norm, and on many occasions, under a bright blue sky. Although not getting as much snow as the coastal resorts, it makes up for that in the sheer quality of the light dry snow.

From Alpine Backcountry Lodge Tomamu, you can drive to several nearby trail heads in 5-15 minutes and access some superb backcountry glades away from the crowds. For guiding in this area, please contact our Alpine Backcountry Guides manager directly to make a booking.

Ski touring. From the very door of the lodge you can access the quiet and peaceful solitude off the nearby mountains. Talk to us about details or to arrange a guide. Touring ski rental available.

Backcountry skiing in Tokachi Mts. & Asahi Dake.

These areas are further to the north and although day trips are possible, typically they may be too far. For Tokachi, allow about 90 minutes each way but for Asahi Dake, you should allow three hours each way.
